3D GEOLOGIAL MODELING FOR SPATIAL ANALYSIS
Geological models must be well understood and interpreted by the users for appropriate decision making. Useful tools must be provided for a dynamic and interactive data analysis. This thesis aims at a contribution for spatial queries and spatial topological relationships. Geological data obtained by terrestrial or satellite images are available. We need to develop an optimal data structure for effectively data storage and manipulation. The database will contain spatial data with geometrical and thematic geological information. We investigate the appropriate model for storage in a spatial database. Spatial topological relationships will be found and spatial relationship queries will be proposed. We will use MySQL as a database.
HIGH PERFORMANCE VISUALIZATION OF 3D GEOLOGICAL DATA
We will be looking for tools for high performance visualization of geological data. Gocad, a Geographic Information System will be used and we can also use OpenGL for the Visualization. The goal of this thesis is to explore the powerful visualization functions of OpenGL for 3D applications. Especially, we will investigate special effects, animation, texture mapping and the special tools for representation of surfaces and volumes. The data come from the area of geology and they have geometric and thematic information. They are in files but they can be put in a database. The possibility of connecting the spatial database with the visualization tool needs to be examined.
For the above projects the required skill are knowledge in Programming and databases.
